Hi! I’m Dr. Thandika Brown
I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing in New York and Massachusetts. My work is grounded in empathy, cultural awareness, deep reflection, and collaboration. I help people untangle the challenges that keep them feeling disconnected from themselves, others, and the life they want, and help them find new, better options towards their desired life — but my journey to this work began long before my degrees.
I was born and raised in Jamaica, in a vibrant multicultural home with my Ugandan mother and Jamaican father. Growing up in spaces rich with different languages, traditions, and perspectives shaped how I see people — as layered, complex, and deeply influenced by the worlds they move through.
Since moving to the U.S. in 2015, I’ve worked in diverse mental health settings: community mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, college counseling centers, and group practices. I’ve supported clients across the age spectrum, from children to older adults, and many racial, cultural, sexual, and gender identities. Each person has taught me something new about resilience, healing, and growth. They also taught me that healing happens when you feel safe enough to show the vulnerable parts of yourself and challenged in the right ways.
As a queer Black cis-woman and immigrant, I understand the importance of being truly seen and heard in spaces that often overlook or silence us. My mission is to offer a safe enough, affirming, and culturally sensitive space where you can explore your story, your struggles, and your strengths — without judgment.
What our work together can help you with
🌀 Breaking old patterns – Understand what’s keeping you stuck and how to move forward.
❤️ Healing from trauma – Process painful experiences in a safe, supportive way.
🌱 Strengthening self-worth – Build a more confident, grounded sense of self.
🌈 Navigating identity & culture – Explore racial, cultural, and LGBTQIA+ challenges with understanding.
🔗 Improving relationships – Set boundaries, communicate clearly, and create healthier connections.
Therapy should not only help you navigate challenges but also connect you more deeply to who you are and what matters most to you.
Outside of my clinical work, I was a competitive swimmer and still enjoy swimming. I also enjoy cooking, exploring locally-owned restaurants, and spending time with my family and community. I’m a lifelong learner who loves reading and constantly seeking new ways to expand my understanding of the world.
I invite you to explore my site, learn more about my approach, and see if my work resonates with you.
If you’re ready to take the next step, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
